Refining Our Breeding Operation

From 2008 we have selected Sires for our AI programs to achieve high indexing progeny with balanced traits while maintaining average birth weight EBVs. These Sires were widely used and assisted in achieving higher accuracies with our Breedplan data. We also scanned all retained bulls and heifers to establish the value of carcase traits within our herd. We conducted an AI program with 35 spring calving cows.

2009 – We scanned 75% of the progeny to establish the value of carcase traits in our herd. We conducted an AI program with 38 spring calving cows.

2010 – We scanned 75% of the progeny to establish the value of carcase traits in our herd. We conducted an AI program with 38 spring calving cows.

2011 – We scanned 92% of the progeny to establish the value of carcase traits in our herd. We conducted an AI program with 47 spring calving cows.
Warwick Court Epic E032 accepted for the HAL Progeny Test second cohort.

2012 – We scanned 92% of the progeny to establish the value of carcase traits in our herd. We conducted an AI program with 68 spring calving cows. Warwick Court Everest E140 & Warwick Court Funky F112 accepted for the HAL Progeny Test third cohort.

2013 – We scanned 95% of the progeny to establish the value of carcase traits in our herd. We conducted an AI program with 84 spring calving cows included first calf heifers for the first time. Warwick Court Glebe G101 & Warwick Court Glencoe G040 accepted for the HAL Progeny Test forth cohort. At this point Warwick Court has provided 5 of the 49 bulls under test.

2014 – We conducted an AI program with 74 spring calving cows.

2015 - We scanned 90% of the male progeny and 60% of the females (balance sold to China as calves) to reinforce the value of carcase traits in our herd. We conducted AI programs with 20 Autumn calving cows and 60 Spring calving cows. Warwick Court Jedburgh J121 (H) was accepted for the HAL Progeny Test fifth cohort.

2016 – We conducted an AI program with 61 spring calving cows. Warwick Court Knight K044 (P) was accepted for the HAL Progeny Test fifth cohort. At this point Warwick Court has provided 5 of the 49 bulls under test. At this point Warwick Court has provided 7 of the 72 bulls under test.

In Summary

Warwick Court has:

• Increased the number of heifers as a % of the cow herd
• Eliminated below average calves from the herd for the 2014 drop.
• Reaped the benefits of the HAL Progeny Test in that 5 our sires have been independently evaluated across multiple herds
